Founded in 1989, the South Westland Triathlon has a strong sporting history stretching from Haast to Hokitika & beyond.

Encompassing some of the most stunning scenery the West Coast has to offer, this annual event has something for all ages & fitness levels.

Enter the triathlon or duathlon as an individual, in a team or get your work mates together and participate in the Corporate Challenge. This is an iconic competition starting in Franz Josef and finishing in Whataroa.

On the same day we also hold 2 fun events which take place in Whataroa: The Funathlon and the 8km Walk. These are NOT timed events, but children or adults of any age can enter either individually or as a team.

So get a team together or enter as an individual and come along & join the fun!

THE triathlon & Duathlon Events

Triathlon: Run – Kayak – Bike

Team: $120 per team

RUN 9KM

Start from the Community Centre in the Franz Josef Township and run along SH6 to Jetty Bay, Lake Mapourika.

Triathlon: Run – Swim – Bike
Price:
Individual: $45pp
Team: $120 per team

RUN 9KM

Start from the Community Centre in Franz Josef Township and run along SH6 to Jetty Bay, Lake Mapourika.

Duathlon: Run – Bike
Price:
Individual: $45pp
Team: $80 per team

RUN 9.5KM

Start from the Community Centre in the Franz Josef township and run along SH6 to the change point, 500 metres past Jetty Bay, Lake Mapourika.

Funathlon

Our Funathlon is all about having fun - this is a relaxed, family-friendly event designed for all ages and abilities. This event takes place in Whataroa.

This is not a timed event – it’s all about participation, giving it a go, and having a great time with friends and family.

We have 2 categories to choose from:

Fuanthlon Walk - 8km

Funathlon Bike & Run - 6km bike ride followed by a 2km run

Pre-registration is required. Entry is $5pp, with all welcome to participate.
